Transition Retirement/Separation

The following services are available for transitioning members and veterans of all service branches through the Travis AFB Airman and Family Readiness Center.

 DODI 1332.35, Transition Assistance for Military Personnel:


Release eligible service members during duty hours to complete the DOLEW and the VA Benefits Briefings I and II, and all TAP classes exempting them from normal duty for the full 24-hour period of each workshop/briefing day and the 12 hours immediately preceding and following each workshop/briefing.

Installation leadership should be following these guidelines, in the current Force Management environment, strongly recommend that personnel be given adequate time for attendance/recovery.

Permissive TDY Authorizations impacting members due to Force Management

1st class to sign up for: 

TAP Retiree Pre-separation Briefing (Wednesdays) 0730-1200, 1st class to attend before any other TAP Classes. Mandatory for all no exemptions. Completion of DD Form 2648, Tri-care Medical Briefing and Survivor Benefits Plan Briefing.

TAP Separatee Pre-separation Briefing (Wednesdays) 1300-1600, 1st class to attend before any other TAP Classes. Mandatory for all members no exemptions. Completion of DD Form 2648. 

2nd Class to sign up for:

TAP Transition Assistance Program GPS (5 DAY) Workshop (Monday - Friday) 0730-1630 - Mandatory for all members, Wednesday - Friday optional for Retirees over 20 years (All Services). DRESS ATTIRE IS BUSINESS ATTIRE! INTERVIEW DRESS ON FRIDAY) BRING LAPTOP COMPUTER IF YOU HAVE ONE. You will have homework the final 3 days! This is a 5 Day workshop that will consist of Medical Records review on MONDAY (Request copy of records at least 3 weeks in advance), Transition Overview, Transition Resiliency, Military Occupational Crosswalk, Financial Resiliency, VA Benefits Briefing on Tuesday and Department of Labor Employment Wednesday thru Friday covering employment in the 21st Century, job search skills, networking, marketing yourself, negotiating salaries and much more.

3rd Class to sign up for:

TAP CAPSTONE EVENT (MONDAYS) 0900-1100 - MANDATORY AFTER ALL REQUIRED WORKSHOPS ARE COMPLETED. This 2 hour workshop is to verify all required items have been met and completed in order to provide members with a COMPLETED DD FORM 2958. Mandatory for all members separating and retiring.

TAP class attendance order:

1st Class must be the Pre-separation briefing...separating or retiring (all members; No waivers or exceptions).

Held every Wednesday (no classes on holidays)

Retirees over 20 years or medical board retired 0730-1200

Separating members with less than 20 years 1300-1500

Spouses may attend

2nd Class is the 5 Day TAP GPS or alternative (1 Day TAP Waived Workshop if retiring over 20 years, or you have proof of employment/college acceptance letter from company). Email or bring to TAP Manager before signing up for class.

Offered 3 times a month - 0730-1630, business attire. Friday dress will be Interview attire.

Waived days consist of Day 1 and 3-5 DoL portion may be waived for reasons stated above.

All members must attend 5 Day TAP GPS or 1Day waived TAP GPS, to include retirees over 20 years.

Spouses may attend

3rd Class is CAPSTONE Event 0900-1100 (Every Monday, except for Holidays) complete after class 1 and 2 have been completed. (Everyone must attend CAPSTONE, this is the final class to approve all requirements have been met.) Will be provided DD Form 2958 to get signed by commander or designated rep and returned to AFRC to be cleared from virtual MPF. Cannot clear virtual MPF without this for returned. 



Optional Classes to attend is one or all of the pathways - Education, Entrepreneur or Vocational/Technical (if applicaple to your future planned agenda or path). 0800-1630, business casual attire.  Education Pathway call Education Center at 424-3444 to sign up and get information about class.

Spouses may attend with member or without if this is their path after separation or retirement.
